What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a type of talking therapy that helps people manage problems by changing the way they think and behave. It is based on the idea that thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are interconnected, and that negative patterns can trap people in a cycle of distress. CBT focuses on identifying unhelpful thought patterns, challenging them, and replacing them with more balanced and constructive ways of thinking. It is commonly used for conditions such as obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), and depression. Unlike some other therapies, CBT is structured, goal-oriented, and often short-term.

What is Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is designed to help people process and recover from distressing memories, particularly those related to trauma. It is based on the idea that traumatic experiences can become “stuck” in the brain, leading to ongoing emotional distress, flashbacks, or anxiety. During EMDR, the therapist guides the client through a structured process while using bilateral stimulation—often eye movements, but sometimes tapping or sounds. This helps the brain reprocess the traumatic memories, reducing their emotional intensity and allowing the person to integrate them in a healthier way. EMDR is widely used for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) but can also be effective for anxiety, phobias, and other emotional difficulties.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Children & Young People

We offer evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for young people aged 12 and above who are experiencing emotional or mental health difficulties. CBT is a structured, goal-focused approach that helps children and adolescents understand the links between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

Whether your child is struggling with anxiety, low mood, self-esteem, or other challenges, we work collaboratively to build coping strategies, develop resilience, and promote lasting emotional wellbeing. Our sessions are tailored to each young person’s needs, and we create a safe, supportive space where they feel heard and understood.
